Troubleshooting Tips

Support Bulletin
  • Vista is now supported for all of our software products

  • Cooks Palate versions prior to 4.x are no longer supported.  If you would like to evaluate the free trial for upgrade purposes please download it from the trial registration -->

  1. Problem:  Trial zip file is damaged or truncated after download and cannot be opened.
    Solution:
Delete the trial download file and download a new copy for installation.  The trial is large (40MB) and requires a stable high speed connection for best results.  If you are on a dial-up connection or attempting to download during peak traffic hours, your download transmission may be interrupted or incomplete, depending on your ISP's Internet connection service.   Best times to download include late at night or early in the morning.
  2. Problem:  I downloaded the trial and clicked on UNZIP but nothing happened.
Solution:  You must complete the 2nd step of installing the program.  Here are the complete instructions for download and installation:
    • Click on the trial download link to start the download.
    • Select 'Open File' and press OK.
    • When prompted click on the file 'setup.exe' and follow the prompts to complete the installation.
  3. Problem: Getting error: DLL, VB5DB.DLL and/or 9:Subscript out of range
Solution:  One or more of your Windows files is out of date. Download this file vb5db.zip to the desktop folder on your PC. Inside is a self-extracting zip file. Click on the file to open it. Click on the unzip button when prompted. The missing dll file will be copied to the Windows system folder. Restart Cooks Palate.
  4. Problem:  Software installation is complete but when I open the program, I get an error  "Unexpected component is not correctly registered." Error message references threed32.ocx
Solution:  This Windows component file must be registered for the program to run. A copy of this file is stored in the  c:\program files\cooks palate folder.  Copy the file to this folder:       c:\program files\windows\system32.   Go to the Windows Start Menu, Enter Run and type or paste the text in italics below into the Run field. You should receive an acknowledgement that the file was registered once complete.  This is the text to paste:
    Regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\threed32.ocx
  5. Problem:  'Runtime error 339, component 'cstext32.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered.'
Solution:  The program is attempting to access the file cstext32.ocx but it cannot be opened because it not registered in your copy of Windows. Click on this file to download it and follow the instructions below:  cstext.zip
    • Download the file
    • Double click on the file to open it. Double click on the file inside to open it.
    • Follow the installation prompts to register the file.  The installation will automatically register the file for you.
    • Open The Cooks Palate program
  6. Problem:  I need to zip my Cooks Palate database file. How do I do that?
Solution:  To Zip (compress) a file you will need to do the following in Windows XP:
Open Windows Explorer and find the file called “cookspal32.mdb”. It is stored in this folder:
    c:\program files\cooks palate\recipes
Make sure you are viewing your folder in the right-hand pane of Windows Explorer and right-click it. A pop-up menu will appear on where you should select "Send To" | "Compressed (zipped) Folder". Wait a second and a new file will appear. This is your zip file, and its name is based on the name of the file/folder you selected. Note the location of where the file is saved and attach it to a support email reply.
  7. Problem:  'The Cooks Palate database could not be opened due to an error. Class not registered.  Looking for object with CLSID:. {00000100-0000-0010-8000-00AA006D2EA4}'
Solution:  The database cannot be opened.  The Microsoft Access file called dao32.dll is missing. Download this file and follow the instructions below:  dao360.zip
    • Download the file
    • Double click on the file to open it. Select Extract and extract the file to the  c:\windows\system32 folder.
    • Once done, Go to the Windows Start Menu
    • Select Run and type or paste the following into the Run field:
      Regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\dao360.dll
    • Open The Cooks Palate program
  8. Problem:  Software installation was incomplete
Solution:  There probably aren't enough system resources available to complete an installation of the software. Check to make sure your system has the recommended configuration.
  9. Problem: When printing recipes, nothing happens or the printed recipe has scrambled characters
Solution:  You do not have the printer manufacturer's printer driver installed.  You may have a generic Windows printer driver installed which currently allows you to print from email or MS Word, but generic drivers cannot translate the bitmap recipe files that The Cooks Palate generates. To correct the problem, install the printer driver provided by the printer manufacturer on CD or download it from their web site.  Once installed,  reboot your PC for the change to take effect. Try printing a recipe again.
  10. Problem:  Cannot open the program.  Error reads: "the database cannot be opened due to an error."
Solution: The database file cannot be opened either because there is insufficient disk space for the program to operate or the database file is corrupted.  Check to see that you have at least 60MB of free disk space available on the drive where The Cooks Palate is installed.  If you have sufficient disk space, it is likely that the database file is corrupted and needs repair.  We can usually repair corrupted database files for you. Please submit a support request form.
